circus company welcomes a new artist on the label: the homewreckers. named after a track by southern soul legend sam dees, the production collective from germany has been moving and breaking new ground between detroit techno, abstract funk and melancholic disco music since 1995. their debut album amercian ruhr has been released on unique records in 2008 and creates an absolutely distinctive sound which seems to come straight out of a from a feverish dream populated by the ghostlike figures of larry graham, juan atkins, frank hutter, bernard edwards, erik b or al green. the not my business ep perfectly shows how the homewreckers flow on these two original tracks. you feel the funk, you feel detroit and you feel a deep and unique sense of music. cherry on the cake, you got a remix from san francisco based artist dave aju who is back on the label after his much acclaimed album open wide released in 2008. not my business isnt their first shoot on the label as they were already part of last months snuggle & slap circus company compilation with a brilliant live-version of chicago urban blues.

cyber dance records unleash their fifth record entitled somewhere out on the nightside. the ep consists of four tracks introducing a new batch of artists to the cyber dance cartel, brassica, serious lover, bill ambrose and melanie houston. brassica is the music of hackney bedroom producer michael anthony wright. hes had a couple of records on dissident and has a few more lined up for some other quite well-known labels over the next year. ballo dei morti was conceived one dark christmas day in milan and features the chorus of slayers dead skin mask vocoded in italian. the track has been eagerly awaited on vinyl after several months of attention through blogs such as 20 jazz funk greats and vice magazines music blog. serious lover is the brain-child of london based producer sam ryan who fuses electro-soul influences of early jam and lewis production with a more modern, harder sound, employing vintage synths and archaic drum machines in the studio and electronic musicians for the full live show. bill ambrose has been producing music on his collection of vintage synths and drum machines for over a decade, working behind the scenes as a producer or engineer on several releases. he wrote paranoid specifically for cyber dance earlier this year. melanie houston is a dj, musician and producer from london with a passion for dark, emotional music and a previous history in berlin where she djd and contributed music for the cult techno label tresor. with influences incorporating everything from avant-garde electronics to 80s synth pop, melanies as renowned for her skills on the turntables in the mix as for her abilities in the studio.

belgian producers sierra sam & marcus vector return to their house-oriented project d.i.y. (dumb irresponsible youth) for three more sly, sexy groovers, with contributions from dop, big bully and markus fix.
while sam and marcus are generally known for their more techno-focused productions, last years house tools vol. 1 was a minor hit, with tracks included in ellen alliens resident advisor podcast, jay hazes recent fabric47 mix cd, and m.a.n.d.y.s charts. since then, they ve kept busy with their own toys for boys label, meanwhile sierra sam has co-produced the debut album by bloody mary on contexterrior.
still, they ve found the time to crank out these new elegant-yet-sleazy cuts, and while vol. 1 was purely instrumental, for vol. 2 they ve roped in some guest vocalists. first up is their collab with comrades dop (circus company, eklo, supplement facts). >kilimanjaro< features d.i.y.s tribal bounce combined with dops seedy, trent reznor-on-opiates vocal delivery.

after the success of their first 12inch release the horse meat disco boys have whipped up 3 more cute little edits that after months of plugging have now been proven to send dance floors both home and away into a tizzy. for a ride is a bit of a horse meat disco anthem in the shape of lucky by donna summer and its been tweaked to extend all the glorious bits that made it one of the unsung triumphs of the bad girl album. next up is a reworking of karen silvers sam and dave cover of hold on, which gets twisted into a mid tempo disco rock out, whilst finally an obscure outro on boney ms bonoonoonoos album gets flipped into a track in its own right. with its distinctive record sleeve and good quality vinyl the latest in the horse meat disco edit series aims to wet the record buying pallet before their first compilation is released this summer.

this summer beni will continue to reign the dancefloor supreme with a new monster slab of black plastic, maximus featuring vocals from the mighty sam sparro. who put the fun in acid-funk you ask? the answer is: beni did. a low-slung exercise in dark and dirty arpeggiated sleaze, maximus marries a sparse bubble-groove that creeps up behind you and licks your ear with a very purple vocal performance by sparro to devastating effect. the resulting track is something akin to kiss-era prince and friends dirty dancing at a toga party while ancient rome burns down around them. on the flipside beni and nicky night time give maximus a night-time re-dub rubdown, taking the track away from the creepy funk freak and towards a straighter slammer jammer, favouring blatant dancefloor manipulation over the subtle and the sexy. also featured (and included on the next kitsune maison 7 installment) is fringe element, which encapsulates the feeling of surfing on a shooting star like never before, with beni sitting proudly at the controls. an electronic orchestra of descending basslines, vocoder snippets, bleeps and acid squeaks, fringe element caps off another compelling chapter in benis lifelong voyage through dance. after the cover of his first ep my love sees you made by geneviÞve gauckler, his new 12 is illustrated by french artist andre.

berlin-based belgian producers sierra sam & marcus vector present the debut release of d.i.y. (dumb irresponsible youth), their new house-oriented project. sierra sam (toysforboys, einmaleins, trapez) and marcus vector (toysforboys, nomor, playground) recently released their first joint effort for contexterrior. working together once again, this time around theyve put aside their usual dark techno inclinations, opting instead for uninhibited house led by analog percussion sounds. drumroll, please… >pimp my saw< is a frenzy layers and layers of toms, kicks, steeldrums and clicks. >screw it up< is a more melodic affair, with the classic build-up and tension that defines classic house material, plus a hint of latino finesse. on the flip, >hammer of love< closes things out with a shuffly balance between the organic and the artificial, with looming atmospheric ambience to set a darker tone. these three tracks are the perfect tools to use where the sun dont shine. (that would be the nightclub, you pervert!)

aka jules dent & sam woodford who both hail from the isle of wight, travolta fever was featured on pete tongs bedroom bedlam in his fasttrax show on his website where it won head and shoulders from the rest. the track was then luckily snapped up by groove baby and remixes were quickly called upon from dj ellroy, defunct! and dj denise (mizumo music) and now its gaining more and more support from the electro / electroclash djs i.e jaymo, kissy sellout, calvertron, micky slim, twocker, will bailey, kid kenobi etc

there is the 2nd part of the faze series from sam rouanet aka reynold (boss of trenton records) with one hell of a track called straight into the wall, a straight up (real) shuffled groove with nice chords and a killer electro bass line! the remix from till vons sein is definitely as good… deeper. great work from till though, he is really on the ramp right now and we will see more of his work on the upcoming trenton releases. also a new signed artist on the label is der thal that is giving us a remixed version of the craft tune from reynolds faze part.1 recent ep.

strong release from redwan…it sounds acid, minimal, old school and modern in the same time… defenitly well done by the boss of the imprint. more a huge peaktime dancefloor killer by sarah goldfarb and his friend sam & dave & lowran (stir/unfoundsound)

trouble in paradise is a pure testament to the roots of r&b flavored vocal house. in the danism vox the sweet simplicity of the standard boom & clap intro is well paced and leads into the funky bassline, while the enchanting chords set the stage for the outstanding vocal performance of sean williams. his r&b flavored, distinctive phrasing is mildly reminiscent of john legend, however, seans earthy quality shines through. the passionate & insistent lyrical melody never fails, climaxing into panoramic bridges while the memorable bah de dahsintermittently dot the production. its texture is a reminder of sophisticated nyc funk a la early 80s prelude/west end/sam records with a modern house feel. djs, if you want the ladies on the floor, trouble in paradise (danism vox) is the one to drop!

apologist hails from the holy land of cosmic disco italy. behind the name apologist (wave music) we find the producers brusca and sam perez. they started to gain recognition with their dark, progressive thriller of a cut called ghouls & ghosts on h plus in 2004, the duo has released productions and remixes together, separately and under different names on quality labels like yoshitoshi, baroque, swift, restart, wave music, but they dont limit themselves to sinister grooves of that nature. while their style is always epic with sweeping synthesizers and digital drama and effects, apologist is showing their sensual, dubbier side with this exlusive release of pycairo records.

kemado records, home of swedish psychedelic rockers dungen and interpol esque new yorkers elefant, has just signed folk/soul rocker langhorne slim. the eponymous release features 13 new tracks, which were recorded at the great north sound society in maine. the album was produced by langhornes drummer malachi delorenzo and josh ritters keyboardist/producer sam kassirer, who also contributed piano, organ and accordion. slims fun, gospel fied, punk grass will move you and get you movin. this collection of songs represents their most comfortable, cohesive and soul shaking music to date.
